Nutroll: Secret of the Illness!

Weeeell, doggie! Looks like you've found the secret Illness page! That or some dirty snitch gave you a link to it. Either way, anyone interested (or bored) enough to check it out deserves some props and random tidbits.

Waddler

The design is obviously inspired by the old Hanna Barbera title cards from the 1960's.

Monitors

I went all out redesigning the monitors behind the fine newspeople. I'll probably be reusing this same background whenever this preview appears in some form of print, so I wanted them to look good. It turns out that most of the really good stuff is covered up by dialogue or characters. See if you can figure out which one I did after realizing that no one even see most of this in the story.

Dr. Sylvia Gaines, named after a great person that I met in real life, will show up as a character in another one of my comics. That woman is Denise Rodgers, the reporter who will appear on page one. That guy was just an empty suit for the screen but I just figured out who he should be as I typed this out. Considering what happens later in the story, his job SUCKS.

The Game Screens - This was one of my favorite things about the original teaser. I know it's a dirty way to mess with peoples' minds, but it's my way of letting you know that anything can happen when you're reading a Nutroll book. Here are the current game screens that pop up:

Panel 4 v.1 (April 1, 2007, updated April 27, 2008) - At this point, Nutroll's 'rest' becomes troubled and he starts thinking of games. The original plan was to have a lot of multiple panels from the get-go and have this be a rare variant that pops up and leads to a secret page like this. I ran out of time and only had this one finished when the comic debuted.
Panel 4 v.2 (April 1, 2007, updated April 27, 2008) - Not long after the comic was open to everybody, I was able to finish this tribute to Technos' River City Ransom video game. If you're trying to figure out who he's fighting there, check out the old Nutroll preview that can be found in the comics section. In a weird way, this panel ties to some past character development that shows up in a later story. Seriously.
Panel 4 v.3 (April 13, 2007, updated April 27, 2008) - This was supposed to be done by the debut, but I could never get Nutroll/Gouki/Akuma to look right. I'm pretty sure SF fans know what the guard is a parody of since he's in the old SFII K.O. pose. The background riffs off the same setting as the v.2 panel.
Panel 4 v.4 (April 27, 2008) - I wanted at least one new screen for the redone teaser page. The newscasters are talking about video game violence so Mortal Kombat popped into my head. If you look around the Nutroll art gallery, you'll see an ancient pic of him wearing a similar outfit. Newsflash font by Blambot.

FYI: Later on down the road, you may want to hover over those game panels. Just sayin'.

Here's the background for that Mortal Kombat panel up there. As you can see, I didn't go all-out on this because you can't even see it in the final version.

There'll be more added to this page as I come up with it.
