At this point it seems like the most unexpected thing I could do on April Fool’s Day would be to make new line art, so that’s what I did. And who else was it going to be but Nutroll, the comeback kid of 2025? This was drawn on paper and cleaned up by hand a bit in PSP X5, and I may redo it in Clip Studio Paint just to get some really clean lines, but there are things I’m always naturally better at setting up in analogue drawing. And you know what? It feels good, even when I’m struggling with the art (whited out and redrew his right boot to get a better angle). If you’re wondering if I plan to draw more line art, you’ll see a hint in the text of that gallery page.

This year’s Wrap-Up video on ScrollBoss brings back the main part of Nutroll’s short, animated debut, along with a short sprite display I only posted on social media, but I’ve added something to it.

That 3-D Illmosis logo animation is brand-new, but that blue screen with a symbol like Nutroll’s mask is based on an old comic scene where Nutroll’s thoughts interfered with a TV broadcast.

I still need to make a better version of that symbol to match his new mask, but it felt good to bring that back and set up something for future videos.

ILLVEMBER recognizes the long-defunct (but not forgotten) Beans vs. Cornbread! A few years ago I made sprites of Almighty Grandmaster Wizard and not only made a sprite of Upski Daisy but even redesigned her. They didn’t appear hear or the Beans vs. Cornbread site then, but I’ve got them here now, including the linework scan for AGW. I’ve been scheming to get more of the cast in pixel form, including one character who may make crossover appearances in a ScrollBoss idea I’ve had because he’d be the perfect host.

Another all-new sprite of one of my characters was added to the Illmosis heroes gallery page, and this time it’s the Entity. He’s the second all-new sprite for Illvember, and it’s no coincidence that he’s the second hero I made up as a kid. Hey, it’s been a while since I’ve done anything with these characters, other than Nutroll, just let me have a little fun here.

Today’s updated video game gallery page is for the Ninja Gaiden pixelart, adding my 2022 Ryu Hayabusa and 2025 Irene Lew sprites, along with a few bosses. I even went back into the work file and made a slightly different variant of Ryu based on the NES graphics where he doesn’t have any socks, and I’ll have to add that to the ScrollBoss site later. They’re replacing 2014 sprites, so if you look at those sprites in the Alternate Versions section, you’ll see how far I’ve come with pixel art over a decade or so.

Finally, here’s some lineart that I drew in 2023 but didn’t add to the site because… I don’t completely know, that’s why. But it’s here now and it’s Green Lantern. More details on that gallery page.

There will be a small update later this week, but I don’t know exactly when yet. I’ve mostly been working on something special for the last main Illvember update that’ll drop next week.

Back in the first 2025 site update for my ScrollBoss site, Nutroll covered his mask with a sign that said “Not Yet” and then popped up again months later during that site’s 25th anniversary with a sign that had”11-11 illvember” scrawled on it. We’re on the eleventh day of the eleventh month (a few days shy of the site’s anniversary) and now it’s time to start Illvember, a celebration of Illlmosis, and that means I should probably bring this site back to life, right? RIGHT. And to kick that off I’m adding new pixelart of Nutroll and another one of my characters, my first character, M-Wave. M-Wave gets a standing sprite in a new pixel style, but Nutroll? he finally lowers the sign only to show that his mask no longer has a mouth drawn on it. He’s up to something, but I feel like he’ll get it straightened out before the end of this month.

Speaking of which, This Illvember event will be going on ALL MONTH. Every few days I’m going to update out-of-date pixel art gallery pages and add a few new ones. I’ve done A LOT of work over at ScrollBoss and it’s time to start bringing it over here. I’ll also be adding the new Illmosis-related pixel work to the ScrollBoss site. It’s going to be a lot of site work, but it needs to be done. To start that, the other new thing added to the site today was a page for the newer ScrollBoss site characters who mostly debuted while Illmosis was in hibernation. Vonetta, Maddie, Amelia, and Jilly make their debut here in the second new gallery page.

At some point, I’ll post some new line art. Really, I’ve been drawing less detailed line art to scan and turn into pixel art, but not much like the detailed work that I used to post here. Besides concentrating on pixel related stuff, the current state of the internet swallowing up new fodder for slop killed a lot of my desire to show new line art online. But it’ll be back.

Keep an eye out for a lot of updates this month with some new pixel art every week, and maybe Nutroll will fix his mask before we get to December. You’ll see a line art preview of the next sprite if you look at the extras on one of today’s new pages.
