pixelart - ScrollBoss Archetypes (Shinobi) - 2012-2025
Sprite work by James Beaver

The Archetype sprites are an idea to make semi-generic sprites for the ScrollBoss image generators, and potentially some asset sets later on. The first two sprites were a weird ghost (2018) and then a male zombie (originally made for pixel art stickers). The zombie had a ton of palette options in the generators, but this was one of the main sprites that made me want to add separate palettes for things like clothing parts, eyes, skin, etc. I got that feature to work in 2023 and added extra palette separation to the zombie, with my favorite feature is one that adds more shadow to specific parts of the sprite while letting the eyes glow.

2023 was also the year I made the first Bunnygal sprite. I figured people could use the extra palette slots to make bunny suit versions of other characters, like the cosplay group of bunnysuit Avengers I'd seen years earlier, and that's why I called it a Cos-lady sprite. That line continued in 2024 with the Nurse and 2025 with the witches. The default colors usually have yellow blonde hair because it's easier to keep those yellow and orange shades separate from the skin colors. Future plans include making more body types for them, which would've happened with the Witch if I hadn't run out of time in October.
